The kids in the workshop were using Canon Powershot cameras and doing most of their editing and production on Adobe's Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements.
The Cameras:
Several of the teachers preferred having the kids on cameras with minimal zoom to ensure that they get comfortable getting up close to the subjects.
The Software:
The image editing was done with Photoshop Elements and consisted of a basic work flow including:
- Adjusting level
- Adjusting Hue and Saturation
- Sharpening for the web
- Resizing for Premiere Elements
Within Premiere Elements the focus is on:
- Laying in the narration track
- Adding additional sound tracks for music and the ambient sound they collected throughout the week
- Adding the syncing in the photos to the narration track
- Adding transitions between images
- Translation and adding subtitles
- Creating credits consisting of photos and text
The advanced students with Fotokids in Guatemala City are doing their more sophisticated image work with Photoshop.
Several of the mentors were using Adobe Lightroom to manage and edit large volumes of digital images.
